Roeg season at BFI: Win tickets

Nicolas Roeg is one of the great British filmmakers with a massive and diverse body of work. The expression visionary filmmaker gets bandied around fairly liberally these days, mostly thanks to lazy and unimaginative marketing copywriters.

However, in Roeg's case it is more than appropriate. Films such as Performance and Insignificance defined an era, while Don't Look Now is still considered one of the scariest films made, and Walkabout became something of a fantasy film for many teenage boys.

The Man Who Fell to Earth

For sci-fi fans it is The Man Who Fell to Earth he is best remembered for, with the perfectly cast David Bowie in the lead role. In fact, Roeg has a history of casting musicians in dramatic roles from Mick Jagger in Performance to Art Garfunkel in Bad Timing.

Roeg also has a great reputation as a cinematographer and shot Truffaut's adaptation of the sci-fi classic Fahrenheit 451.
