The Golden Age of Science Fiction

The Golden Age of Science Fiction

For science fiction fans back in the 30s and 40s, movie matinées didn’t have much more to offer than Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers; there was radio but no TV. If you wanted an immersive experience or a journey to the furthest reaches of the imagination, there was only one place to go - the magazine stand.

And the essential magazine for true science fiction fans was John W. Campbell, Jr.'s Astounding Science Fiction. Astounding defined the way we still see the future, and one man, John Campbell, defined Astounding.

In this documentary we meet the great editor through the often conflicting thoughts and reminiscences of SF’s greatest storytellers. And Campbell himself shows up for conversation and cocktails, in footage from the legendary film, "Lunch with John Campbell", by James Gunn.

Literally saved from the dumpster, Solstein has finally produced a digital transfer of this rare film, and presents it as an integral part of “The Golden Age of Science Fiction.”

The film includes writers: Isaac Asimov, Frederik Pohl, Harry Harrison, Michael Moorcock, Robert Silverberg, Phillip Jose Farmer, Brian Aldiss, Samuel R. Delany, Greg Bear and many more.
