Saturday has always been filmmakers' day at SCI-FI-LONDON and this year we have an extra-special day of workshops and panels for you; the kind of stuff that you won't find anywhere else.
We kick off with Simon Guerrier's ever-popular workshop, Finding the Story Within A Story, showing you how to milk the news for film ideas and flesh them out into complete stories. Simon is a British science fiction author and dramatist, closely associated with the fictional universe of Doctor Who and its spinoffs. He has written three Doctor Who novels for BBC Books and the Big Finish Productions' Dr. Who audio dramas, The Settling and The Judgement of Isskar.
This is followed by Sable Jak on Writing The Fantasy Film, a workshop based on her best-selling book of the same name published by MWP. Sable has written for Script Magazine, Absolutewrite.com and runs audio company, Sebastian T Sweet Productions. Her script for 'A Rebecca Bowen Mystery: An Elemental Horror' won a Spirit of Moondance Award for Audio Drama at the 2010 Moondance IFF and is being turned into a Graphic Novel with artist Wednesday Wolf.
Next we have a panel of experts on Finding the Funds, where we hear about alternative methods of raising the money to make your film. Our illustrious panel comprises:
Gregory Vincent, a pioneer of microfinance, having launched Europe's first crowd-funding website in August 2010, Sponsume revolutionises the way film-makers and artists raise the funds to make their creative projects happen.
Corine Dhondee is Director of The Queen's Suite, a documentary about British jazz arranger Peter Edwards and his dream to perform The Queen's Suite (written in 1958 by Duke Ellington) to the Queen in London's cultural quarters the Southbank. The film was made without funding but post-production funds were raised on Kickstarter.
Nic Wistreich Co-Founded Netribution and in 2007 published, edited and co-authored the best seller How to Fund Your Film. Now in its 5th edition with over 11,000 copies sold it details more than 1000 film funds and incentives in over 40 countries as well as countless case studies and guides.
Tessa Inkelaar is a Producer/Script Developer at Bone Palace Pictures and a Production Assistant at Film London for the ground-breaking Microwave micro-budget funding scheme to commission debut feature film-makers in the capital.
After a break for lunch, Tom Hunter, in association with Spread the Word, talks Social Media Marketing: the tools, the techniques and how it all comes together. Tom is a marketing and PR specialist with a background in the arts & cultural sector. He is also the current director of the Arthur C. Clarke Award for science fiction literature.
Tom is followed by Film Producer and Founder of the No Budget Film School Mark Stolaroff. Mark understands film-funding in the kind of depth we all dream of and he'll be talking about maximising your resources and planning for a return on investment using the feature film PIG, which he wrote, as a case study. Pig has it's world premiere at SCI-FI-LONDON on Saturday 30th April. We round off the day with a final panel discussion on Cutting out the Middle Man, discussing alternative means of distribution for your finished film. The panel comprises:
