3 Weeks to the 48 Hour Film Challenge

48 Hour Film Challenge 2013

SCI-FI-LONDON is proud to welcome Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Pacific Rim) to the jury of this year’s 48 Hour Film Challenge. The visionary filmmaker, novelist, comic writer and all-round busy person is heading up a prestigious jury. Joining him are: Actor Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, The Hobbit), producer Brad Wyman (Monster, Barb Wire), Annalee Newitz (Editor-in-Chief, I09.com), Maria Reinup (Festival Director, Haapsalu Horror & Fantasy Film Festival, Estonia) and director Dev Benegal (Road,Movie).

For the fifth year SCI-FI-LONDON, the UK’s favourite science fiction film festival, is once more hosting its annual 48 Hour Film Challenge. The competition sees over two hundred teams of enthusiastic filmmakers descend on the BFI to boldly create a 5 minute film from scratch within – you guessed it – 2 days.

The Rules:

Contestants are provided with a title, a specific prop and a line of dialogue on the morning of the competition.

They are also given an optional scientific theme, this year provided by NewScientist.

Previous entrants have included Gareth Edwards, whose 2008 win so impressed Vertigo Films, they quickly green lit his critically acclaimed Monsters.

Prizes this year include:

  • A feature film development deal with Vertigo Films
  • Professional camera equipment from Canon
  • A Green Screen Studio Day, with kit and crew worth up to a £1000 from Camberwell Studios.
The Multiverse

Successful entrants will premiere on Warwick Davies’ The Multiverse film channel and at the festival.

The competition kicks off at 10.00 AM on Saturday 6th April at the Southbank BFI. Registration is free and currently open here
