SciFi London - CAPTCHA

Last Saturday I joined the cast and crew of CAPTCHA at its premiere at the Electric Cinema in Notting Hill. From writer-director Edward Tracy (FonejackerFacejacker) and starring Doctor Who's Arthur Darvill as well as Amy Beth Hayes (Mr Selfridge), Nigel Lindsay (Alan PartridgeFour Lions)and Kayvan Novak (SyrianaFour Lions), it's a noirish spy thriller love story set in a 1940s steampunk London.

Shot mostly on greenscreen, it's visually stunning. The London it depicts is industrial but futuristic, grim but beautiful, and believably functional (no need to groan at the 'steampunk' description - there are no silly giant cogs here). You get the sense this story is one small part of the world, a world I could have spent much more time in. It's great that with the release of the film comes the news that a feature-length version is also in the works.

Whilst the download will be great, come see it at the festival on the big screen!  Thu 4 June, Stratford Picturehouse

What often feels missing from VOD platforms is the behind the scenes material of DVDs and BluRays. Especially for a film like this where the effects are so integral, it's cool that the release at We Are Colony includes behind the scenes material - the shooting script, artwork, interviews, work in progress effects, etc. Digital tools have made this kind of imaginative world-building more possible for the independent filmmaker than ever, so a peak behind the curtain is definitely appreciated.

CAPTCHA and its behind-the-scenes bundle is available now, globally and exclusively, at https://www.wearecolony.com/captcha/
