Brief synopsis:

The End of Days are close at hand and a mystical faction known as “Dragons of Heaven” believe that the only way for the Earth to be saved is through the total and unequivocal extermination of mankind. Opposing them are a second faction known as “Dragons of Earth” who wish to thwart the Dragons of Heaven and ensure humanity’s survival. According to the prophecies foretold by the great seer there is only one man who holds the power and the rightful position to shape mankind’s destiny. This man is Kamui Shiro and it is said that when he returns from his long absence and journeys to the city of Tokyo there will be another who will rise up against him. After many years spent away from the city, Kamui is reluctant to join the battle but when his friends are dragged into the war to end all wars, Kamui finds he must take his prophesied place if he is to save not just his friends, but the whole world.

Comments:

Directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri (Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust), this box-set contains all 24 episodes of this classic 2001 anime series based upon the long running manga series X/1999. Like many other series based on works by popular manga team Clamp, the art style takes a little getting used to but once you’re over that hurdle it becomes evident that this series was wonderfully animated throughout and still looks good for it’s age. Unfortunatly while the original Japanese vocals are well handled, the English language dub track can be a bit hit and miss at times.

Extras:

Spread across the 6 discs there the ubiquitous text-less opening and closing animations (what a surprise), trailers as well as an interview with the Director and behind the scenes at animation production company Madhouse. Also included on this release is a DVD only preview episode, “An Omen”, which serves to set the scene and introduce the characters to those unfamiliar with the original manga

X - Complete Collection will be available from most high streets and online retailers from 4th October 2010.

Brief synopsis:

At the start of the 17th century, two mighty samurai, the honourable Kyoshiro Mibu and the murderous Demon Eyes Kyo, face each other in the midst of the Battle of Sekigahara. When a meteorite falls to earth leaving a path of destruction in it’s wake, both men are considered dead, lost to the mighty power of the meteorite’s explosive demise. Four years later and a young female bounty hunter is shocked to discover that the travel physician she’s just apprehended, wanted for the petty crime of eat and run, s actually Kyoshiro Mibu. Even more shocking is the fact that, when they’re attacked by a demon, the soul of Demon Eyes Kyo, which has been sleeping within Kyoshiro, take possession of his old foe’s body and defeats their would be attacker. It seems that Demon Eyes Kyo has found a way to take over Kyoshiro’s body for short periods of time and is determined to use it to track down his old body and return his soul to it’s rightful place.

Based on the (very) long running manga by Akimine Kamijyo, Samurai Deeper Kyo – Complete Collection contains all 26 episodes of this samurai sword fighting action comedy series.

Extras:

There’s not a huge amount of extras to be found spread over these 4 discs – there’s a couple of trailers, the ever present textless opening and closing animation, interviews with several of the crew members, a video message from the original creator and production crew to the English language fans and almost 20 minutes of the Dub actors fluffing their lines and generally mucking about – but as you’re getting 26 full episodes stuffed onto just 4 discs then it’s still good value for money.

Samurai Deeper Kyo – Complete Collection will be available on DVD from most high street retailers, as well as online retailers such as Amazon and Play, from 4th October 2010.
