Happy Valentine's Day

We know that you will already have bought the flowers, ordered the champagne, picked out the poshest box of chocs, planned a romantic candlelit meal and chosen your favourite sci-fi film for a cosy evening in. However, for those of you who want to go the extra mile and get that extra special present (or for those of you who have perhaps not yet realised that the Valentines has once again come around and are panicking thinking “what do I get???”), here’s what SFL recommend for your loved one:

For Him:

Dead Space 2

Dead Space 2
The scariest game we’ve ever played is not the most romantic on the market but is certainly the most thrilling and will bring you and your loved one closer together as you desperately cling to each other for comfort in the dark.

Poor engineer Isaac Clarke recovers from a coma, only to find himself fighting a new outbreak of horrific, disfigured, acid-goop spewing Necromorphs in the biggest sci-fi title of 2011. Full of amazing scenery, smooth Zero-G puzzles and with impressive weapons including our favourite – the Javelin Gun, DS2 is all about edge of your seat tension, created by exquisite use of lighting and gritty evocative music. Jump-inducing attacks from Necros await in the darkness at every turn but the reward is a satisfying, addictive and thoroughly frightening game that he’ll love!

Test Drive Unlimited 2

Test Drive Unlimited 2
We know times are hard and pennies are scarce. Though you might not be able to buy your special guy an outstandingly lavish present to show your feelings, perhaps you can offer the next best thing – posh cars, swanky pads and over 3000 kilometers of hot racetrack action in Ibiza and Hawaii.

Earn experience points through completing challenges and races, as well as collecting cars, socialising in player run clubs, customising your housing and clothing, discovering car wrecks in secret locations or even taking photographs – think of it as a romantic getaway! TDU2 is focused on freedom and excess in racing paradise. You can even get yourself a haircut whilst cracking thunderstorms and awesome sunsets provide the backdrop to 60 levels. For passionate escapism this Valentines, jump in your Aston Martin DB9 Volante or your Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport and live it up!

For Her:

Dr. Kawashima’s Body and Brain Exercises

Dr Kawashima's Body & Brain
Your loved one is perfect and we’re sure you want to keep them that way – so forget some of the other sweat inducing Kinect titles and buy them this sweet brain buster that features over 20 mini games to warm up your maths, reflexes, logic, memory and physical skills.

This time, it’s not just the brain being put to the test but the body is too as puzzles might need you to form the correct answer with your arms or kick footballs with the right answer on into the goal. The exercise element is gentle, innovative fun, which is great otherwise we’d look daft recommending a game that’s like spending a day at school. What better way to make your loved one feel special on Valentine’s Day than by demonstrating how wonderfully young her brain beautiful brain is?

Little Big Planet 2

Little Big Planet 2
reativity is the name of this game. Customising the little Sackperson into something wild and wonderful then leaping, running, shooting, grabbing, flying, riding hot air balloons and fighting evil cupcakes through 30 fabulous physics-based story levels is great fun.

Collect costumes, stickers and tools whilst saving the world from the evil, city-devouring beast Negativitron. There are plenty of reasons to revisit levels time and again to find hidden keys and point bubbles or simply to get inspiration. At your disposal are exactly the same design tools, as used by the games designers – Media Molecule – so you can create your own levels, toys and gadgets.

The creation tools are broad and there are quite a few tutorials to get a grip on the basics but the reward is complete creative freedom – limited only by imagination. The game works on three planes; background, middle ground and foreground so getting you head around designing can be a challenge but making a level that other people in the online LBP community want to play is awesome and provides the potential for hours and hours of fun. Grab your loved one and show you them care by creating a special level of love where anything can happen then share your love with the world - awwwwww!

All these titles are available from Play
