Assassin's Creed Revelations - Preview

After one of the most agonising cliff hangers ever at the end of Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, the concluding part of Ezio Auditore da Firenze’s story will finally be revealed next week.

Leaving behind his life in Rome, Ezio heads to the heart of the Ottoman Empire in search of a secret library, a collection of important artefacts hidden by his ancestor and mentor, Altair Ibn La’Ahad who, after taking on the main role in the original Assassin’s Creed game, returns as a playable character. In the hope of finding answers and solace, Ezio’s pilgrimage quickly turns sour when he reaches the city as he finds it overrun with Templars who are also seeking Altair’s library. The race is on, for whoever finds it first will unlock the power to control the Assassin Order and ultimately the destiny of all humankind.

Thankfully, Ezio has had a fair few years to hone his skills and appears deadlier than ever. Eagle Vision has evolved to become Eagle Sense so you will now be able to predict where enemies are going to go, detect traitors hiding in crowds and pick up clues dotted around the environments which look the most detailed and stunning in the series so far. He’s also got a fancy new tool – the hookblade which means you can zipwire all over the city with ease as well as chaining together some grizzly attacks plus there’s a new way of crafting a variety of bombs to suit your needs, as well your usual air assaults and free running.

Back in the modern day, Desmond’s subconscious has been split wide open thanks to spending too long in the animus so expect to meet a whole host of historical characters as he explores deeper into his ancestral past.

We knew Ezio’s story was never going to just fizzle out gently with him tending to some allotment in Rome but we didn’t predict it would be so perilous, thrilling or cinematic. He’s no longer a young man and although he’s strong, will this final outing see him succeed or fail? All will be revealed on November 15th when Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is launched on Xbox360, PS3 (due out on PC in early Decemeber).
