Alien Chaos 3D Review

By Tracey McGarrigan

Set in the distant future, humble Rambo-bandana-wearing cleaner Really Shooter (that’s reallyhis name) runs a cleaning and demolition business with his Mama. Armed with dusters in one hand and blasters in the other, they frequently have to deal with robot animal alien invasions though today, work’s going to be tougher than usual as Mama has been kidnapped.

Alien Chaos 3D
With a classic rock and chiptune mix accompanying the action, Really Shooter gets straight to business over 5 frantic episodes with an obligatory, perfectly named end-of-episode boss at round 5 (my favourite being the armor-plated spinball baddie the Harmadillo). Whether he’s cramped inside a high rise office block or infiltrating the mother ship in search of Mama; shooting, jumping and cleaning are the way to survive the coming mechanical menagerie. Each level has tightly designed platforms to leap to and from whilst the animal parades keep on coming in wave after relentless wave through portals. Pumping out spent shells whilst expertly timing jumps over riot-shield wielding hippos, when Really Shooter’s shooter runs short of ammo, he has to sweep up and deposit dead robot debris into recycle points in order to reload. Tactically planning when to reload whilst alternately sweeping and gunning or jumping to avoid enemies is as the title suggests, total chaos!

Different recycle points offer the chance to try out different types of weapons including blasters, machine guns and rocket launchers, but Really also has another explosive trick up his sleeve as can charge up his super blast power by cleaning dirty spots off the wall – yes, cleaning can save lives! Whilst eliminating grime, Really is at his most vulnerable and open to attack. Each time he’s hit and trampled to the floor, any surrounding enemies are blown up (creating yet more dirty marks to wipe down) but that comes with a price as his health bar depletes by one. It’s a silly idea, brilliantly executed that quickly creates a sense of panic in the more heated moments.

Though quick skilled gamers might find the 10 hour story mode a bit of a quick session, watching Really (the most unlikely sci-fi hero ever) get on with destroying robotic animals by either plugging them with a barrage of hot bullets or evaporating them with his super-charged chamois leather is great. There’s an additional challenge mode which is a lot tougher than the story but still packs a fun punch. At just £3.59, there is a lot to like about this quality and quirky title which is available to download now via the Nintendo eShop.
