With each regeneration the Doctor seems to get younger and younger. In the ‘60s, the Doctors were in their sixties and in this 1966 feature film adaptation of the popular TV series it is Hammer Horror meister Peter Cushing playing the Doctor.
Invasion Earth 2150 AD is the sequel to Cushing’s first outing as the Doctor in Dr Who and the Daleks. Arriving in the future, the Doctor and his companions discover the Daleks have taken over the Earth (or at least London and the Home Counties), destroyed the city and enslaved the population to work in a mine that is excavating towards the Earth’s core.
With the aid of an underground resistance, the Doctor uses his scientific knowledge of the Earth’s magnetism to defeat the Daleks.
This feature film, sponsored by Sugar Puffs (look for the product placement!), is a great nostalgia trip for children of the ‘60s, and a chance for new fans of the Doctor to go back to a simpler time when the Daleks were the scariest thing on TV.
